Barbara Kelley, Moon Catcher Studios

Aspen Night 24x30 monotype

Barbara Kelley is a printmaker and painter, creating works in her studio overlooking the Pacific Ocean and also in her studio located in the heart of the wine country in Sonoma County, California. She was in the territory of Alaska. Her dad built a log cabin, with a dresser drawer for a bassinet, one light, and water piped to the kitchen. When the waterline froze her dad raised the wooden floor in a closet and dug a well for indoor water. The pioneer philosophy remains an integral part of her creative process. New frontiers, experimentation and exploration are evident in her paintings and prints.

The central intention of her work is to create visual reflections of universal themes. She strives to create a visual language that is both evocative and straightforward. Recycled and found objects in her prints and encaustic paintings create pattern, texture and dialogue, focusing on simplified compositions, colors and symbols to narrate this visual language. What emerges is her vision of quiet observations and reflections of a journey.
