The Ackerman Heritage House

Ackerman Heritage House

Restoring a quintessential Queen Anne Victorian is no easy feat. In 2010 Lauren Ackerman purchased an iconic, but sadly faded, 1888 home known as The Gifford House. So began an illuminating journey restoring one of Napa’s famous Victorians to its former 19th century splendor. Located just two blocks off Napa’s famous Main Street, this historic mansion stands as a reflection of the areas rich cultural history. Now re-christened “The Ackerman Heritage House,” this grand old lady warmly invites you and your guests to partake in a piece of Napa’s historic charm. An event at Ackerman Heritage House is truly an original experience. In addition to the historical surroundings and the period-correct antique furnishings, your guests will be welcomed in a unique environment that truly captures the elegance of the 1880s.

The Aviary at Ackerman Heritage House

Authentic experiences offer a better understanding and appreciation of a place. Formally a carriage house and in the 1800s an aviary where they raised chickens and pheasants for food, The Aviary at Ackerman Heritage House is our Tasting Salon across the Victorian courtyard from the house. We welcome you to visit The Aviary and step back into the historic era of Napa to enjoy artisan wines from Ackerman Family Vineyards and Lloyd Cellars. Within walking distance of the exquisite restaurants and shops of downtown Napa, The Aviary offers guests a unique wine tasting experience and provides the opportunity to relax as you learn about the historic Ackerman Heritage property and the family stories behind it while enjoying the acclaimed wines.

Ackerman Family Vineyards

Ackerman Family Vineyards is located on 15.5 acres in the heart of Napa’s newest AVA, Coombsville, and was granted a California Certified Organic Farm (CCOF) certificate in 2009. Ackerman Family Vineyards produces under 1,000 cases of cabernet sauvignon and cab blends which are sold direct to restaurants and consumers across the US.

There are indispensable attributes that go into each Ackerman bottling: an unhurried hand and a focused mind on quality and sustainability. Taste our wines and you’ll soon discover they share other consistencies: balance, structure and symmetry. Deep, rich berry flavors, silky tannins and a subtle elegance that echoes Bordeaux qualities. We never want our wines to overpower food—that’s the antithesis of total enjoyment. And goodness knows, we appreciate the other half of the equation (food) just as much as wine! All of our wines share hallmark characteristics, yet each Ackerman bottling tells its own story of the vineyard.

A visit in Coombsville brings you full circle. We can point you in the direction of Coombsville’s extinct volcano, Mt George, and acquaint you with this part of Napa Valley’s southern landscape through wine. As you explore, allow us to color the background in. You’ll soon understand why this AVA is filled with character - from its history, to its climate and geography. No doubt our resident horses have something to say about this remarkable region as well. They are, in fact, a part of our family story. What is the best way to spend an afternoon? Lingering over a selection of older Ackerman Family Vineyard vintages and delightful cheeses.
