Nearly half a century ago, on the outskirts of Sebastopol, Andy and Katie Skikis opened a small fruit stand. Today, Andy’s Market is northern California’s largest and most-prominent open-air produce market. Situated in what is now the heart of Sonoma County, the market now boasts a complete selection of fresh premium produce that includes organically grown produce and natural food products. Regardless of the season and the specific produce a customer is searching for, if it’s available in northern California, Andy’s will have it!

The market also features packaged bulk food, specialty foods and gourmet cheeses, bakery items, fish and local beef, and all-natural health and beauty products. Its vast array of local wines concentrates heavily on Russian River Valley wine, in addition to many others from surrounding areas (such as the Alexander Valley). The wholesale division of this family-owned business, which opened in 1993, counts more than 100 local restaurants and many local stores among its clientele. Despite the market’s evolution over the decades, it has managed to retain its old-fashioned fruit stand charm. This explains in part why Andy’s received The Press Democrat “The Best of Sonoma County” Readers’ Choice 2014.

The Skikises are the parents of five children, and of their family-run market involves, among other relatives, 19 grandchildren. It’s not surprising that Andy’s Market actively supports other family- and locally-owned businesses. Among their sources are local farmers who produce only small amounts. Along with buying from neighboring family farms, Andy’s buyers also work from the San Francisco City Market. In the wee hours of the morning, Andy’s Market trucks in top-quality produce so that it’s available to wholesale customers starting at 4:00 a.m., and later when the store opens to the public at 8:00 a.m. To make access as convenient as possible, Andy’s is open seven days a week, and until 7:30 p.m. each evening.

Andy’s Market is proud to be a member of GO LOCAL, a network of Sonoma County’s locally owned businesses, nonprofits and government agencies. They work together to foster a robust local economy by supporting local independently owned businesses and promoting sustainable practices.
