Questions for Wedding Editorial for the Essential Guide:
For recent brides’ perspective on their weddings here, The Essential Guide surveyed half a dozen of them. The number of wedding guests ranged from 60 to 400, with most between 110 and 135. They were warm weather weddings, other than one on New Year’s Eve weekend. (The astute bride reasoned that guests would be available since it was a holiday!)
Why did you choose Santa Fe for your destination wedding?
It was a destination wedding for all of our guests. We live in New Mexico and love it here, and since this is our home (and where we met), we really never considered anywhere else. We also knew that most of our out of town guests and family would make Santa Fe a part of their trip anyway, so we figured it would make the perfect spot.
What kind of events did you plan for your family, wedding party and guests and what local businesses helped you plan them?
We planned a special Welcome Cocktail Hour at The Bar at Encantado the night before the wedding. It was wonderful - a chance for family and friends to either meet for the first time or mingle again. The fire pit area outside was also the perfect gathering spot with amazing views! Then the morning after the wedding we hosted a beautiful outdoor brunch, thanks to Encantado, on the restaurant patio. A perfect ending to a perfect weekend, and a chance for Michael and me to say one last goodbye to our out of town guests! We had our rehearsal dinner at La Casa Sena in downtown SF……around dusk on the outdoor patio. The area was all lit up and gorgeous and a great way for our families to check out the plaza area!
What made your wedding unique?
I think our wedding was unique for our family and friends because New Mexico is so different, and offers some of the most amazing views you’ll ever see. We also tried to keep it small, and had one long King’s table at the reception. Many people said they had never been to a wedding with that arrangement. It really connected the entire group and we loved being able to see everyone from where we sat!
Did your wedding have a theme or a look and how did you choose it?
I’d say our theme had a New Mexican flavor with a classic twist (thanks to the elegant ballroom at Encantado). We had a mariachi band at the cocktail hour and gave out biscochitos for our favors with a description of their significance to New Mexico, and weddings.
How did you decide on a venue for your wedding and reception?
We toured many properties and felt an instant connection to the property, the views, and the amenities at Encantado. We also ate a meal during our tour…..another HUGE selling point!
How many guests did you have?
Around 60
Who were some of the vendors that you used?
Felicia Ponca at Encantado helped us with all of our planning. She was fabulous! Always a smile on her face,,,, and a lot of fun to work with! She has a very creative talent which helped me to pull together some of my ideas and make them real!
Did you receive any art pieces as wedding gifts?
Yes, we received a beautiful pottery bowl from Acoma, NM.
What were the best memories of your wedding?
Too many to count! But a few that stand out…entering the ballroom as husband and wife, our first dance,,,and walking down the aisle immediately after the ceremony..so excited!
What advice do you have for Brides planning their wedding in Santa Fe?
Advice: Stay super organized....clip any, and all pictures, of ideas and ‘looks’ that you’d like at your wedding. This really helps to make sure everyone is on the same page!
