HVL Interiors

We create spaces that bring beauty, clarity and inspiration to our clients’ daily lives. With a thoughtful approach, we craft an interior that meets our clients’ needs and identities while offering a fresh and enduring concept.

Partners Heather Van Luchene and Steffany Hollingsworth are New Mexico licensed, ASID professional members, and bring over thirty years of combined experience to projects.

We offer a full range of services for residential and contract projects with a focus on new construction, remodeling and boutique corporate and hospitality design. Our entire HVL design team has a rich, diverse background combined with interior design qualifications and is known for progressive solutions and unparalleled client service.

Our work has been published in leading interior design magazines, several coffee table books and featured on nationally televised home and garden shows.

2009 Design Editorial Responses

"It is alarming that publications devoted to architecture have banished from their pages the words Beauty, Inspiration, Magic, Spellbound, Enchantment, as well as the concepts of Serenity, Silence, Intimacy and Amazement All these have nestled in my soul, and though 1 am fully aware that I have not done them complete justice in my work, they have never ceased to be my guiding lights." - Luis Barragán (1902-1988) - Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate, 1980

Barragan’s words and work always speak to me. He created very soulful, classic contemporary work and those are qualities I strive to create in my projects.
If our title is " what is old is new again..." how would this statement reflect your work?
Most of our interiors incorporate something old in a new, contemporary context, whether it’s an antique Mexican door as a headboard, a carved Moroccan post turned into a bathroom shelf, or a special family heirloom carefully placed in a minimal environment. I believe old elements add texture, mystery and history to a contemporary space.
What is the best “green” example for the least cost?
Buy antique or vintage furnishings and give old materials a new life.
How can one gradually become “green?”
Buy locally from artisans in your community when possible, so that you’re not creating unnecessary transportation and also invest in your local community fabric. Buy quality pieces that you love so that they stay with you for a lifetime.
Your dream project would be?
I’ve always dreamt about designing airplane interiors to make the entire traveling experience more spa-like.
The work for which you are most proud is?
I’m especially proud of my committee work that benefits Youth Shelter & Family Services of Santa Fe and Habitat for Humanity.
If you weren't an Architect, Designer, Builder, Furniture maker what profession would you have chosen?
I’d be a chef or landscape designer.
As a potential client what is one thing about your work that would make me choose you, your firm or furnishings?
Each of our interiors is completely tailored and personalized for the client. We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach to design.
