The holidays are such a special time of year. We all gather together to enjoy family time, exchange gifts and eat indulgent treats. When December rolls around, we’re all ready for a bit of a break from the daily grind. We’re excited to enjoy the magic of the season and we look forward, in communal anticipation to the wonder of the year that lies ahead. Holiday Festival of Lights -James Island County Park
Nov. 8 – Dec. 31
Charleston’s beloved James Island County park bursts to energetic life this time of year with their Holiday Festival of Lights. This cherished holiday tradition welcomes families from the Charleston area and beyond with over 700 light displays and two million lights – it’s definitely an experience! This event was recognized as one of the “Top 10 Holiday Celebrations” by Coastal Living and the American Bus Association ranked it as one of the “Top 100 Events in the Nation” – and most recently, the Holiday Festival of Lights was named one of the “Top 20 Events in the Southeast” by the Southeast Tourism Society.
Beyond the fabulous light displays, which alone are a feast for the eyes, the festival boasts:
- • A plethora of handmade gingerbread houses to enjoy
- • A Victorian carousel – fun for the whole family
- • A colossal sculpture made from over 50 tons of sand
- • Delectable treats from Santa’s Sweet Shoppe
- • Greeting Cards made by local students
- • The Holiday Train, which will take visitors through the myriad light displays

Gingerbread House Workshop – The Inn at Middleton Place
Are you and your family looking for something hands-on this holiday season? The Inn at Middleton Place, renowned for its inimitable architecture and southern style, is offering a Gingerbread House Workshop from 1-5PM on Sunday, Dec. 22nd. The whole family is invited to create their own architectural masterpieces out of gingerbread and admission is only $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 3-14 – with free admission for children ages 3 and under. Each gingerbread house kit is $8 – a great price for a memory that will last a lifetime. The Inn at Middleton Place is located at 4290 Ashley River Road.
