400th Year Anniversary

The city of Santa Fe, New Mexico will commemorate its 400th Anniversary during the summer of 2010. Prior to this time and throughout 2008 and 2009 there will be a multitude of events commemorating this event in our history. Four centuries are a lot to cover in one article, one book or by a single image. We are a unique and diverse town. Prior to the naming of Santa Fe by the Spanish, our mountains, rivers, and lands were the home to Native Americans. During the Spanish Colonial period Santa Fe became the crossroads of commerce for this area of the country and began to see the emergence of a true multicultural community that coexist, in both our intermingling and in our unique separateness. The 400th Anniversary is a commemoration of all of our history and how it has helped create our City Different--Today. We are known for this history as much as we are known as the second largest art market in the country -- perhaps it is this history that moves so many of our artist to create, either in the traditional art forms of our Native and Spanish Colonial parents or in cutting edge contemporary mediums. All, which you can see throughout our galleries and especially during our well-known festivals and markets, But even if its only our 300 days of sunshine that brings you here, you have come at a very special time—a time that is almost 400 years in the making!
